This bill relates to Shelby County and amends Section 3 of Act 79-524, establishing a personnel board for county law enforcement officers. The bill provides for the compensation of the chief deputy sheriff, the operations manager, and up to two majors in the sheriff's department. It also repeals Act 2009-336, which relates to the compensation of the chief deputy sheriff.

The bill specifies that the personnel board established by Act 79-524 applies to all law enforcement employees of Shelby County, with certain exceptions. The exceptions include elective officers of the county or any municipality, members of county or municipal appointive boards, commissions, and committees, employees of county or municipal boards of education engaged in teaching or supervising teaching, judges, employees of the United States government or any agency thereof, and employees of the State of Alabama or any departments therein. The bill adds that the chief deputy in the sheriff's department, the operations manager, and up to two majors in the sheriff's department shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the sheriff in the unclassified service of the county. The compensation of these positions will be set in accordance with the pay and compensation plan established by the county commission. Act 2009-336, which relates to the compensation of the Chief Deputy Sheriff of Shelby County, is repealed. The bill will become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
