This bill, relating to podiatry, aims to expand the scope of practice for podiatrists in Alabama. It proposes to amend Section 34-24-230 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to include the treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle within the practice of podiatry. The bill also provides definitions for terms such as ankle, foot, diagnosis, medical treatment, surgical treatment, mechanical treatment, manipulative treatment, and electrical treatment. It further states that a podiatrist may not surgically treat osseous ailments of the ankle unless they have completed at least 36 months of post-graduate residency training approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Educations of the American Podiatric Medical Association. The bill will become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor or its otherwise becoming law.
