This bill, known as the Lares-Herring Act, authorizes the issuance of a distinctive motor vehicle license plate to benefit brain cancer research. Under this bill, owners of motor vehicles who are residents of Alabama can apply for and be issued distinctive "Brain Cancer Research" license plates. These plates are valid for five years and can be replaced with conventional, personalized, or new "Brain Cancer Research" plates. The bill also specifies that Blazer Bolt, Incorporated will be responsible for designing the distinctive license plate, subject to approval by the Commissioner of Revenue and compliance with all laws and rules. The annual fee for the distinctive plates will be distributed in accordance with Section 32-6-68, with the portion allocated to Blazer Bolt, Incorporated being used to fund brain cancer research in Alabama. The Department of Revenue may adopt rules to implement this section. The bill will become effective on January 1, 2024, following its passage and approval by the Governor or its otherwise becoming law.
