2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to firearms; to amend Section 13A-11-62,
4 Code of Alabama 1975, as amended by Section 1 of Act 2022-133,
5 2022 Regular Session, to revise the definition of shotgun.
6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
7 Section 1. Section 13A-11-62, Code of Alabama 1975,
8 as amended by Section 1 of Act 2022-133, 2022 Regular Session,
9 is amended to read as follows:
10 "13A-11-62.
11 "For purposes of this division, the following terms
12 shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly
13 indicates otherwise:
14 "(1) FIREARM. As defined under Section 13A-8-1.
15 "(2) RIFLE. Any weapon designed or redesigned, made
16 or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and
17 designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of
18 the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a
19 single projectile through a rifled bore for each pull of the
20 trigger.
21 "(3) SHORT-BARRELED RIFLE. A rifle having one or
22 more barrels less than 16 inches in length and any weapon made
23 from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or
24 otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length
25 of less than 26 inches.

1 "(4) SHORT-BARRELED SHOTGUN. A shotgun having one or
2 more barrels less than 18 inches in length and any weapon made
3 from a shotgun (whether by alteration, modification, or
4 otherwise) if such weapon as modified has an overall length of
5 less than 26 inches.
6 "(5) SHOTGUN. A weapon designed or redesigned, made
7 or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and
8 designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of
9 the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a
10 smooth bore either a number of ball shot or a single
11 projectile for each single pull of the trigger."
12 Section 2. This act shall become effective on
13 January 1, 2023, following its passage and approval by the
14 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
