8 SYNOPSIS: This bill would prohibit public institutions
9 of higher education and public K-12 schools from
10 providing support for, funding for, or use of their
11 campus facilities for the operation of cultural
12 institutes, such as Confucius Institutes, that are
13 affiliated with, funded by, or supported by the
14 government of China.

20 Relating to education; to prohibit public
21 institutions of higher education and public K-12 schools from
22 providing support for, funding for, or use of their campus
23 facilities for the operation of cultural institutes that are
24 affiliated with, funded by, or supported by the government of
25 China.
26 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

1 Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this act, the
2 term "public institution of higher education" has the same
3 meaning as in Section 16-5-1, Code of Alabama 1975.
4 (b) No public institution of higher education or
5 public K-12 school may provide support for, funding for, or
6 use of its campus facilities for the operation of cultural
7 institutes that are affiliated with, funded by, or supported
8 by the government of China.
9 Section 2. It is the intent of the Legislature that
10 constitutionally created boards of trustees comply with the
11 requirements of this act.
12 Section 3. This act shall become effective on the
13 first day of the third month following its passage and
14 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
