9 HAYDEN, SR.

11 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
12 death on May 12, 2021, of Reverend George Washington Hayden,
13 Sr.; and
14 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
15 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
16 where he was highly regarded; and
17 WHEREAS, Reverend Hayden was born in 1948, in
18 Dixiana, Alabama, to Deacon Alfred Hayden, Sr. and Pearl Lee
19 Hayden; and
20 WHEREAS, after graduating from Praco High School,
21 Reverend Hayden enlisted in the United States Air Force; a
22 Vietnam Veteran, he served as an Aircraft Mechanic; after he
23 completed his service, he resided in Columbus, Ohio, and
24 joined Clair United Methodist Church, where he served as
25 Usher, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Male Chorus Member,
26 Chairman of the Trustee Board, and Lay Speaker; later, he
27 returned to Alabama and was called by God into ministry in May

1 1986; in July 1989, he was ordained by God through a counsel
2 of pastors, under Pastor Oscar Huntley at New Canaan
3 Missionary Baptist Church in Graysville, Alabama; during his
4 tenure at New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, he served as
5 Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and President of
6 Christian Education; and
7 WHEREAS, Reverend Hayden served as Pastor of
8 Jerusalem Baptist Church in Porter, Alabama, and had served as
9 Pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church for 28 years; he also
10 was a Certified Teacher of the National Sunday School
11 Publishing Board and the President of the Congress of
12 Christian Education for the Walker County Young Ministers
13 Association; and
14 WHEREAS, Reverend Hayden earned his Bible Diploma
15 from The Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College in
16 Birmingham, Alabama, in May 1990; his Bachelor of Theology
17 Degree in May 1995; and his Master of Arts in Biblical Studies
18 and his Master of Arts in Ministry with a Concentration in
19 Pastoral Leadership from The Birmingham Theological Seminary;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents;
22 son, Gordon W. Hayden; brother, Nathaniel Griffin; and sister,
23 Mary Leonora Hayden; and
24 WHEREAS, Reverend Hayden is survived by his devoted
25 wife, Sonya L. Hayden; sons, George W. Hayden, Jr. (Ebony),
26 Gregory W. Hayden (LaQuita), Reuben Woods (Lauren), and
27 Roderick Hayden (J'Aime'); daughter, Domonique Stinson;

1 brothers, Johnson Griffin (Laura), James Griffin (Mary),
2 Alfred Hayden, Jr. (Vanessa), and Donald Hayden (Earlene);
3 sisters, Geraldine Gardner, Darlene Hayden Raines (Clyde), and
4 Sharon Spear (Tommie); special aunt, Valdora Johnson; and a
5 host of nieces, nephews, additional family members, and
6 friends; and
7 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
8 missed, the memory of Dr. Hayden will be cherished in the
9 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
11 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Reverend George
12 Washington Hayden, Sr. is recorded with deep sadness, and this
13 resolution is offered in tribute to his life, along with
14 heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by
15 many.
