8 COMMENDING SAMUEL LEROY WHITAKER ON HIS 80TH
9 BIRTHDAY.

11 WHEREAS, it is a great pleasure to extend
12 commendations and congratulations to an extraordinary
13 Alabamian, Mr. Samuel Leroy Whitaker, on the occasion of
14 celebrating his 80th Birthday on May 16, 2021; and
15 WHEREAS, endowed with a keen intellect, sense of
16 duty, and strong work ethic, he obtained a Bachelor of Science
17 Degree in Sociology from Athens State College and furthered
18 his studies at Alabama A and M University and The University
19 of Alabama in Huntsville; Mr. Whitaker is a proud veteran of
20 the United States Army, having served tours in Vietnam, El
21 Paso, Texas, and Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama; he
22 was a valued employee of the Army Education Center, serving as
23 an Education Specialist, Training Instructor, Instructional
24 Systems Specialist, and performed counseling duties; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Whitaker is actively affiliated with
26 many veteran organizations, including Forty and Eight,
27 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion; he served

1 in the Associations of Counselors and Educators in Government,
2 the American Association for Adults and Continuing Education,
3 the American Counseling Association, Kappa Alpha Psi
4 Fraternity, Incorporated, the Von Braun Lions Club, the
5 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People,
6 and served as the first African American District Governor in
7 the South Eastern District of Lions Clubs International; and
8 WHEREAS, devoted to faith and family, he is a member
9 of Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a
10 Sunday School teacher and singing in the Mass Choir and the
11 Male Chorus; he and his beloved wife have seven children and
12 many cherished grandchildren; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Whitaker has lived his entire life in
14 accordance with his devout Christian commitment, earning
15 widespread respect for his strength of character and
16 dedication to his fellowman, and he is an inspiration to those
17 who are privileged to know him; now therefore,
18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
19 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Mr. Samuel Leroy Whitaker is
20 honored and commended on the occasion of celebrating his 80th
21 Birthday on May 16, 2021, and this resolution is offered in
22 highest tribute to him along with heartiest congratulations
23 and best wishes for future health and happiness.
