8 MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. NATHANIEL BOOKER, SR.

10 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
11 death on April 24, 2021, of Mr. Nathaniel "Nat" Booker, Sr.,
12 at the age of 89; and
13 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
14 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
15 where he was highly regarded; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Booker was born on January 1, 1932, in
17 Conecuh County, Alabama, to West Booker, Sr. and Madie Booker;
18 he was the fourth of 13 children; and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Booker accepted Jesus Christ as his
20 Lord and Savior at a young age, and he later connected and
21 attended 25th Avenue Baptist Church; with a love for music, he
22 had a group called Nat Booker and the Dynamics, and he was
23 also the leader of the group, The Gospel All Stars; and
24 WHEREAS, Mr. Booker worked for the Coca-Cola
25 Bottling Company and was one of the first black men in Alabama
26 to star in a Coca-Cola commercial; also, Gordon Edward Burns,

1 also known as "Country Boy Eddie", featured Mr. Booker on the
2 Country Boy Eddie Show; and
3 WHEREAS, in 1953, Mr. Booker was drafted into the
4 military during the Korean War; after successfully completing
5 his tour of duty, he was honorably discharged; and
6 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his wife,
7 Velmira Smith Booker; son, Nathaniel Nelson; parents; and
8 eight siblings; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Booker is survived by his daughters,
10 Earnestine Pledger, Evelyn Moye, Rosalyn Murphy, Lisa Moss
11 (Lucas), Yolanda Rose, and Britney Williams; sons, Nathaniel
12 Booker, Jr. (Yvonne), Demetrice Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Dion
13 Nelson, and Andre Nelson (Nicole); 44 grandchildren; 69
14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sisters,
15 Ruby Runkins (O'Farris) and Genetta Jones (Paul); brothers,
16 David Booker and West Booker, Jr. (Martha); three very special
17 friends, Helen Nelson, who is the mother of five of his
18 children, Murial Allen, and Lynn Williams; and a host of
19 additional relatives, dear friends, and fellow saints of the
20 gospel; and
21 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
22 missed, the memory of Mr. Booker will be cherished in the
23 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
25 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mr. Nathaniel
26 "Nat" Booker, Sr. is recorded with deep sadness, and this
27 resolution is offered in tribute to his life, along with

1 heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by
2 many.
