8 RECOGNIZING EAST POINT CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN
9 CHURCH ON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.

11 WHEREAS, it is a privilege to recognize East Point
12 Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cullman, Alabama, on the
13 occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary; and
14 WHEREAS, the church was established on May 22, 1921,
15 under the leadership of Reverend T. E. Bright with about 15
16 members; the charter members included, Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
17 Edison, Mr. and Mrs. John Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Reynolds,
18 Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Kennedy, Mr. and
19 Mrs. John Ruehl, Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Blakely, Mrs. Annie Lou
20 Thomas, Mrs. Malissa Brooks, Verdie Sparks, B. F. Morrow, and
21 Gena Keller; the first meeting was held in the Old Grassy
22 Branch Schoolhouse; and
23 WHEREAS, through the years the church thrived,
24 membership grew, new property was acquired, and new buildings
25 were constructed; and
26 WHEREAS, among the highlights of the church's
27 history, in 1925, the adjoining cemetery was begun; in 1940,

1 the members built the present day rock building with rocks
2 hauled from the State Rock Quarry by wagon; and
3 WHEREAS, Reverend T. E. Bright faithfully served the
4 congregation for many years; other serving pastors include
5 Reverend W. D. Edison, Reverend Joe Huffman, Reverend Homer
6 Ridgeway, Reverend J. P. Bright, Reverend D. C. Murphree,
7 Reverend Floyd Gober, Reverend Hershel Jones, Reverend Wayne
8 Wiman, Reverend Tom Ray, Reverend Neil Morris, Reverend E. W.
9 Weathersby, Reverend Martin Rudolph, Reverend Lional Garner,
10 Reverend Grady Patterson, Reverend Howard Rodgers, Reverend
11 Talmadge Bright, Reverend Howard Melton, Reverend Floyd
12 Bradford, Reverend Tommy Graves, Reverend Hughlen Murphree,
13 and the current pastor, Reverend Phillip Nickles; and
14 WHEREAS, over the span of a century, East Point
15 Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been a source of spiritual
16 strength and a beacon of light to the community; now
17 therefore,
18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
19 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That in recognition of celebrating
20 its 100th Anniversary, East Point Cumberland Presbyterian
21 Church is honored and commended, and this resolution is
22 offered in highest tribute to its leadership and members,
23 along with best wishes for the future.
