3 HONORING THE LEGACY OF THE LATE GOSPEL SINGER,
4 ROBERT HUGH "SHOTGUN" GIDDENS, BY PROCLAIMING AUGUST 6, 2021,
5 AS ROBERT HUGH "SHOTGUN" GIDDENS DAY.

7 WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, we
8 honor the legacy of the late gospel singer, Robert Hugh
9 "Shotgun" Giddens, by proclaiming August 6, 2021, as Robert
10 Hugh "Shotgun" Giddens Day; and
11 WHEREAS, Shotgun was born on August 6, 1938, in
12 Talladega County, Alabama, to Cecil Wiley Giddens and Una Visa
13 Hickman Giddens; and
14 WHEREAS, with a passion for singing and listening to
15 southern gospel music, Shotgun sang in numerous quartets and
16 trios during his many decades in gospel music and had a very
17 successful career; his other achievements included being an
18 excellent barber, being elected by the people of Clay County
19 to serve as Circuit Clerk of Clay County for 18 years, and
20 being honored by the Boy Scouts of America in recent years;
21 and
22 WHEREAS, Shotgun married the love of his life, Linda
23 Upchurch Giddens, on August 14, 1966; and
24 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents;
25 son, Jamie Hugh Giddens; sister, Mary Catherine Wallace;

1 brother, Earnest Giddens; and granddaughter, Chastin Roberson;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, Shotgun is survived by his loving wife of
4 53 years, Linda Upchurch Giddens; daughters, Leigh Ann
5 Roberson (Tim) and Candida Giddens; grandsons, Robert Michael
6 Giddens, Nyckolous Roberson, and Kyran Roberson;
7 granddaughters, Kasyn Carmichael, Marki Cochran (Trey), and
8 Missy Werner (Ben); sister, Vista Hendrix (Richard); six
9 great-grandchildren; and a host of brothers-in-law,
10 sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and special friends; and
11 WHEREAS, Shotgun's incredible legacy continues to
12 touch the lives of many; now therefore,
13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
14 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we highly honor the late
15 gospel singer, Robert Hugh "Shotgun" Giddens, and we hereby
16 proclaim August 6, 2021, as Robert Hugh "Shotgun" Giddens Day;
17 this resolution serves as a tribute to the remarkable man with
18 warmest appreciation and admiration.
