8 MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. CHARLES BUSKEY, JR.

10 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
11 death on April 24, 2021, of Mr. Charles Buskey, Jr., at the
12 age of 85; and
13 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
14 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
15 where he was highly regarded; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Buskey was born on June 6, 1935, in
17 Greenville, Alabama, to Reverend and Mrs. Charles Buskey, Sr.;
18 and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Buskey was reared in Aimwell Baptist
20 Church; and
21 WHEREAS, he was a 1953 Honor Graduate of Central
22 High School; a 1956 graduate of Alabama State University,
23 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary
24 Education; and a 1965 graduate of Tuskegee University, where
25 he earned a Master of Education Degree; and
26 WHEREAS, after marrying Gertrude Roberstson Buskey,
27 Mr. Buskey became a lifelong member of the historic Saint

1 Louis Street Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the
2 Trustee Board and taught the A.B. Davis Bible Class; also, he
3 was a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and an active
4 member of the Rho Alpha Chapter in Mobile, Alabama, where he
5 served as Vice Basileus and Keeper of Finance, receiving the
6 50-Year Service Plaque in 2014; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Buskey served in the Mobile County
8 Public School System, starting at Central High School and
9 ending at Murphy High School, for 37 years and retired in
10 1994; in addition, he was a member of the Mobile Education
11 Association, where he served as a member of the Executive
12 Board, as Vice President from 1983 to 1984, and as President
13 from 1985 to 1986; and a life member of the National Education
14 Association, the Alabama Education Retirees Association, and
15 the Mobile Retired Teachers Association; and
16 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his beloved
17 wife of 59 years, Gertrude Roberstson Buskey; parents;
18 brother, State Representative John Buskey; and sister, Shirley
19 B. Green; and
20 WHEREAS, Mr. Buskey is survived by his daughter,
21 Karen B. Williams; son, Attorney Charles D. Buskey (Zitta);
22 grandsons, Steven Williams (Clara) and Kendall Williams;
23 brothers, State Representative James Buskey (Virgia) and
24 Martin Buskey; sisters, Joyce B. Royal and Wanda B. King; two
25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
26 and friends; and

1 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
2 missed, the memory of Mr. Buskey will be cherished in the
3 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
5 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mr. Charles
6 Buskey, Jr. is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution
7 is offered in tribute to his life, along with heartfelt
8 sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by many.
