8 URGING THE ALABAMA LEGISLATURE TO PROHIBIT
9 DISCRIMINATION IN PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS, LOCAL SCHOOLS, AND
10 THE WORKPLACE.

12 WHEREAS, historically, several classes of
13 individuals have been discriminated against because of their
14 race, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin; and
15 WHEREAS, the federal government and a vast majority
16 of states have passed antidiscrimination laws to prohibit
17 discrimination against individuals based upon their protected
18 classes; and
19 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has yet to establish
20 certain antidiscrimination laws that prohibit discrimination
21 against individuals in protected classes in public
22 accommodations, local schools, and the workplace; now
23 therefore,
24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
25 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That this body strongly urges the
26 Alabama Legislature as a whole to pass legislation to prohibit
27 a person from denying any individual full and equal enjoyment

1 of public accommodations, any local school board, employer or
2 employment agency from discriminating against any individual,
3 and any labor organization from excluding or expelling from
4 its membership, or otherwise discriminating against, any
5 individual, based upon certain protected classes.
