8 DISAPPROVING OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL'S DECISION TO
9 RELOCATE THE 2021 ALL-STAR GAME FROM GEORGIA AFTER LAWMAKERS
10 PASSED VOTING LEGISLATION.

12 WHEREAS, we note with dismay that Major League
13 Baseball has relocated the 2021 All-Star game from Atlanta,
14 Georgia, after Georgia lawmakers passed voting legislation
15 aimed at curbing voter fraud, Senate Bill 202; and
16 WHEREAS, the law in Georgia, signed last week by
17 Governor Brian Kemp, was the first major bill of voting
18 restrictions passed in a battleground state since the 2020
19 election; Senate Bill 202 added new identification
20 requirements for absentee voting, limited the use of drop
21 boxes, granted more authority over elections to the Georgia
22 Legislature; and
23 WHEREAS, the history of professional baseball has
24 deep roots in Georgia and with its hometeam, the Atlanta
25 Braves; this franchise is the only one of today's 30 Major
26 League franchises to have fielded a team every season
27 professional baseball has been in existence and is the oldest

1 continuously operating professional sports franchise in
2 America; baseball adds to the quality of life for many people
3 in Georgia, and also to the residents of Alabama, by providing
4 access to live action, affordable family entertainment, and
5 having a positive impact on the economy; and
6 WHEREAS, it is unfortunate that Major League
7 Baseball has chosen to wade into politics by moving its
8 midsummer classic All-Star game out of Georgia; we concur with
9 Georgia's Governor Kemp's statement that Major League Baseball
10 caved to fear, political opportunism, and liberal lies; now
11 therefore,
12 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
13 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby strongly disapprove
14 of the actions of Major League Baseball in relocating the 2021
15 All-Star game from Georgia and we urge Major League baseball
16 to reconsider this action that threatens professional baseball
17 as we historically know it.
