6 RECOGNITION WEEK AND COMMENDING ALL OF ALABAMA'S STATE
7 EMPLOYEE WORKFORCE.

9 WHEREAS, the week of May 2 through May 8, 2021, is
10 nationally recognized as Public Service Recognition Week to
11 honor public servants for their dedication and continued
12 service; and
13 WHEREAS, nationally millions of public servants have
14 worked, and continue to work, to help the United States
15 overcome the challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic; and
16 WHEREAS, Public Service Recognition Week provides an
17 opportunity to recognize and promote the important
18 contributions of public servants and to honor the diverse men
19 and women who meet the needs of the State of Alabama through
20 work at all levels of government and as members of the
21 uniformed services; and
22 WHEREAS, nationally millions of individuals work in
23 government service and as members of uniformed services, in
24 every state, county, and city across the United States and in
25 hundreds of cities abroad; and

1 WHEREAS, public service is a noble calling involving
2 a variety of challenging and rewarding professions; and
3 WHEREAS, the ability of the State of Alabama and
4 local governments to be responsive, innovative, and effective
5 depends on the outstanding performance of dedicated public
6 servants; and
7 WHEREAS, Alabama benefits daily from the knowledge
8 and skills of highly trained individuals who work in public
9 service: Highly trained and dedicated state employees fight
10 disease, including COVID-19, and promote better health,
11 promote economic stability, fight crime and fires, protect the
12 environment and the parks in Alabama, enforce laws
13 guaranteeing equal employment opportunity and healthy working
14 conditions, defend and secure infrastructure, help the people
15 of the State of Alabama respond to and recover from natural
16 disasters and pandemics, teach and work in schools and
17 libraries, develop new technologies, improve knowledge on how
18 the world changes, improve and secure transportation systems,
19 and assist veterans of the Armed Forces; and
20 WHEREAS, public servants have much to offer, as
21 demonstrated by their expertise and innovative ideas; and
22 serve as examples by passing institutional knowledge to train
23 the next generation of public servants; now therefore,
24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
25 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the week of May 2 through May

1 8, 2021, marks Public Service Recognition Week, we highly
2 commend Alabama state employees for their outstanding
3 contributions to the State of Alabama during Public Service
4 Recognition Week and throughout the year during the ongoing
5 challenges of COVID-19, and we salute government employees and
6 members of the uniformed services for their unyielding
7 dedication to, and enthusiasm for, public service, and we call
8 upon a new generation to consider a career in public service
9 as an honorable profession that is efficient and effective and
10 serves the people of Alabama.
