5 RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 2021 AS NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY
6 AWARENESS MONTH.

8 WHEREAS, as technology continues to progress and new
9 kinds of threats arise around the world, cybersecurity is
10 playing an increasingly central role in our national security
11 and daily lives; and
12 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama recognizes that it has
13 a vital role in identifying, protecting, and responding to
14 cyber threats that may have a significant impact on our
15 citizens' security and privacy; and
16 WHEREAS, critical infrastructure sectors are
17 increasingly reliant on information systems and technology to
18 support financial systems, energy, telecommunications,
19 transportation, utilities, health care, and emergency response
20 systems; and
21 WHEREAS, cybersecurity education and awareness are
22 crucial for everyone, including large corporations, small
23 businesses, financial institutions, schools, government
24 agencies, the home user, and anyone who connects to the
25 Internet; and

1 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is proud of the steps
2 we have taken to promote technological innovation and bolster
3 cybersecurity measures; and
4 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is dedicated to
5 providing our citizens and public and private organizations
6 with the resources necessary to ensure the understanding,
7 implementation, and success of National Cybersecurity
8 Awareness Month and to help ensure that Alabamians stay safe
9 online and connect with confidence; and
10 WHEREAS, the "Stop. Think. Connect." trademarked
11 campaign serves the national cybersecurity public awareness
12 campaign and is implemented through a coalition of private
13 companies, nonprofit and government organizations, and
14 academic institutions that work together to increase the
15 understanding of cyber threats; furthermore, the trademarked
16 campaign empowers the American public to be safer and more
17 secure online; and
18 WHEREAS, maintaining the security of cyberspace is a
19 shared responsibility in which each of us has a critical role
20 to play; awareness of computer security essentials will
21 improve the security of Alabama's information, infrastructure,
22 and economy and will help attain a safer, more secure, and
23 more resilient cyber world; now therefore,
24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
25 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we do hereby recognize October

1 2021 as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month; we urge
2 Alabama's citizens, companies, and institutions to recognize
3 the importance of cybersecurity and to observe this month
4 through events, training, and education that will further our
5 country's national security and resilience; we commit to
6 ensuring our nation's cybersecurity, and we raise awareness of
7 the responsibility that all Americans have to protect their
8 Internet-connected devices, technology, and networks from
9 cyber threats at work, home, and school.
