8 HONORING CHARLES AND SYLVIA BORDEN ON THEIR 60TH
9 WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.

11 WHEREAS, Joseph Charles Borden met Sylvia Louise
12 Sanford at a Methodist Church retreat in July of 1956 on Lake
13 Martin; and
14 WHEREAS, they dated and fell in love over the next
15 five years of high school in Montgomery and in college at
16 Auburn University; and
17 WHEREAS, Charles and Sylvia married on Sunday, June
18 11, 1961, at St. James Methodist Church, surrounded by their
19 parents, Joe and Elizabeth Borden and Lewis and Virginia
20 Sanford, other family, and friends; and
21 WHEREAS, Charles was commissioned as a 2nd
22 Lieutenant in the Army and was then promoted to 1st
23 Lieutenant, stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, where his and
24 Sylvia's twins, Charlotte Louise and Melanie Carol, were born;
25 and
26 WHEREAS, the Bordens moved to Mobile, where Charles
27 began working with the Internal Revenue Service, and where his

1 and Sylvia's third daughter, Virginia Elizabeth "Gini Beth,"
2 was born; and
3 WHEREAS, in 1970, Charles and Sylvia moved back home
4 to Montgomery to rear their family, joined Eastern Hills
5 Baptist Church, and became active in the community; and
6 WHEREAS, the Bordens' family of five grew to a
7 family of eight when Melanie married Larry Delon Little,
8 Charlotte married John Allen Meadows, and Gini Beth married
9 Bobby Houston Welch; and
10 WHEREAS, Sylvia and Charles became "Mimi" and "Daddy
11 Charles" to eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Dodgen Meadows,
12 Charles Daniel Meadows, Melanie Elizabeth Meadows, Lauren
13 Elizabeth Little, Landon Borden Little, Sylvia Grace Welch,
14 Jacob Houston Welch, and Virginia Allison Welch; and
15 WHEREAS, Charles retired from the Internal Revenue
16 Service after 34 years of service in 1995 and permanently
17 moved to Lake Martin, where he and Sylvia turned their weekend
18 cabin into a beautiful home on the lake; and
19 WHEREAS, the Borden Clan continued to grow with the
20 love of Rayna Keyes Chupp, William Wilson Myers, Brent Alan
21 Gilbert, George Anthony Carpenter, and with the welcoming of
22 Collier "CC" Daniels and the birth of their first
23 great-grandchild, Rosemary Grace, a special blessing during an
24 otherwise difficult 2020; and
25 WHEREAS, Sylvia has supported, cherished, and loved
26 Charles and her family as a Godly woman and has spent
27 innumerable hours in the kitchen to feed their bodies and in

1 prayer to feed their souls; Charles has continued to find
2 projects to keep himself busy and to help, advise, and guide
3 his family in more ways than can be counted; and
4 WHEREAS, the retirement years have been spent
5 traveling, serving the community, and investing in the lives
6 of family and friends; now therefore,
7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
8 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we honor and celebrate Joseph
9 Charles Borden and Sylvia Louise Sanford Borden on the
10 occasion of their 60th Wedding Anniversary on June 11, 2021;
11 their family expresses their utmost love and gratitude for the
12 example of a devoted marriage and a marriage worthy of
13 honoring.
