8 COMMENDING DR. BERNARD H. EICHOLD, II FOR
9 OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT.

11 WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations
12 are herein proudly presented to Dr. Bernard H. Eichold, II for
13 outstanding professional achievement; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Bernard H. Eichold, II will be
15 observing his 31st year as Health Officer for the Mobile
16 County Health Department; according to the Alabama Department
17 of Public Health and the Jefferson County Department of
18 Health, he is the longest serving Health Officer in Mobile
19 County and in the State of Alabama; and
20 WHEREAS, a Mobile native, Dr. Eichold's father
21 taught him that education is the key to opportunity; he
22 obtained multiple academic degrees from Tulane University,
23 including Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Public Health; he
24 served his country in the United States Navy and is a retired
25 Navy Captain; and
26 WHEREAS, in addition to being the Health Officer of
27 the Mobile County Health Department, Dr. Eichold is an

1 internal medicine specialist with over 42 years of experience;
2 he has been an Instructor at Tulane University and Adjunct
3 Professor of Medicine at the University of South Alabama; he
4 served as Science Advisor and mentor to young scientists in
5 the NASA DEVELOP program based at the Mobile County Health
6 Department; and he is Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the
7 Federal Aviation Administration; and
8 WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Mobile County
9 Health Department has helped to reduce teenage pregnancy by 40
10 percent; used philanthropic dollars to empower a team of
11 students to work against tobacco use; and worked with
12 churches, industries, and individual citizens to improve their
13 personal health, and the health of their employees and their
14 congregations; Mobile County Health Department remains the
15 only Health Department in the state to be both Joint
16 Commission accredited for Ambulatory Health Care and a
17 Federally Qualified Health Center; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Eichold has been honored with many
19 awards and recognitions, including the 2002 William Henry
20 Sanders Award from the Medical Association of Alabama; the
21 2012 Mobilian of the Year Award from the Cottage Hill Civitan
22 Club; the 2018 Laureate Award by the American College of
23 Physicians' Alabama Chapter; Alumni of the Year for the School
24 of Public Health and Tropical Medicine of Tulane University;
25 he is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians; he has
26 received NASA and United States Navy medals; and

1 WHEREAS, within the community, he has served and
2 been very active in many civic organizations, including, but
3 not limited to, Mobile United, BIG, Mobile ARC, Chair of the
4 Community Foundation of South Alabama Board, and currently on
5 the board of the Vestry of Christ Church Cathedral; now
6 therefore,
7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
8 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Dr. Bernard H. Eichold, II is
9 highly honored and commended, and this resolution is given in
10 deepest admiration and appreciation, and along with sincere
11 best wishes for all future endeavors.
