5 COMMENDING LARRY WARD ON RECEIVING THE UNIVERSITY OF
6 ALABAMA NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION'S 2020-2021 DISTINGUISHED
7 ALUMNUS AWARD.
8
9 WHEREAS, it is a tremendous honor to recognize Larry
10 Ward as the recipient of The University of Alabama National
11 Alumni Association's 2020-2021 Distinguished Alumnus Award for
12 his outstanding record of professional excellence; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Ward has cultivated a truly remarkable
14 legacy during a span of more than three decades of community
15 service and leadership; he is a native of Scottsboro, Alabama,
16 and a graduate of that city's public school system; he
17 received a Bachelor's Degree from The University of Alabama in
18 1970 and Juris Doctorate from The University of Alabama School
19 of Law in 1974; he was admitted to the Alabama State Bar that
20 same year; and
21 WHEREAS, he began his outstanding career in the
22 Trust Department of AmSouth Bank; he has spent the majority of
23 his career as Managing Director of the Public Finance
24 Department of Regions Bank Investment Company and then as

1 Managing Director of Raymond James, from which he retired in
2 2018; and
3 WHEREAS, in addition to his distinguished career,
4 Mr. Ward has been dedicated to community service; he has a
5 passion for the City of Birmingham, Alabama, serving as a
6 member of the Board of Commissioners; serving on the Mayor of
7 Birmingham's Police-Community Relations Committee; and on the
8 board of the Birmingham Water Works; he has served as Chairman
9 of the Birmingham Housing Authority and the Birmingham Parking
10 Authority; Mr. Ward served as Treasurer of the Kate Duncan
11 Daughters of the American Revolution School in Grant, Alabama,
12 for 30 years; and as a Municipal Judge for more than 20
13 municipalities throughout the State of Alabama for over 35
14 years; and
15 WHEREAS, notably, Mr. Ward has contributed greatly
16 to the Capstone and its development; he contributes to the
17 Endowed Scholarship Program and is an active member of the
18 Jackson County Chapter of the National Alumni Association; Mr.
19 Ward has established three National Alumni Association endowed
20 scholarships through the chapter, which continuously provide
21 aid to The University of Alabama students from Jackson County;
22 he is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in
23 Birmingham, while the Scottsboro First United Methodist Church
24 continues to be an important part of his life; and

1 WHEREAS, over the course of his distinguished
2 career, Larry Ward has earned widespread admiration and
3 respect for his tireless dedication and exceptional abilities,
4 and he is deserving of special commendation and praise; now
5 therefore,
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
7 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Larry Ward is highly honored
8 and commended, and this resolution is offered to him in
9 highest tribute, along with sincere best wishes for continued
10 success in all future endeavors.
