6 THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA 2020 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA AWARD.

8 WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
9 conveyed to Mrs. Marillyn Adams Hewson for receiving The
10 University of Alabama 2020 Distinguished Alumna Award; and
11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson was born on December 27, 1953,
12 in Junction City, Kansas, to Warren and Mary Adams; she lost
13 her father at the age of nine and was reared by her single
14 mother; and
15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson attended The University of
16 Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in
17 Business Administration in 1976 and a Master of Arts Degree in
18 Economics in 1979; she was also a student of Columbia Business
19 School and the Harvard Business School Executive Development
20 Programs; and
21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson is the Chairwoman, President,
22 and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin, where she has
23 been serving since 1983; Lockheed Martin is one of the largest
24 companies in the aerospace, defense, security, and technology
25 industries; in 2018, the company generated $53.76 billion in

1 revenue, most of the revenue coming from military sales,
2 making the company the largest defense contractor in the
3 world; and
4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson has accomplished many
5 incredible achievements during her career at Lockheed Martin,
6 including serving as the Executive Vice President of Lockheed
7 Martin's Electronic Systems business area, President of
8 Lockheed Martin Systems Integration, Executive Vice President
9 of Global Sustainment for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics,
10 President and General Manager of Kelly Aviation Center, L.P.,
11 and President of Lockheed Martin Logistics Services; becoming
12 a member of the Board of Directors of the company on November
13 9, 2012; assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer in
14 January 2013; and becoming the Chairwoman in January 2014; and
15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson has received numerous accolades
16 over the years, including, but not limited to, earning the
17 Edison Achievement Award in 2018 and being dubbed by Forbes as
18 the ninth most powerful woman in the world in 2018; and
19 WHEREAS, she and her husband, James Hewson, whom she
20 met while they were both students at The University of
21 Alabama, have two sons, Will and David; and
22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hewson has stated that her mother's
23 resilience, hard work, and determination have taught her much
24 about leadership; Mrs. Hewson is indeed an incredible leader,
25 and she continues to inspire the lives of many; now therefore,

1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
2 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Mrs. Marillyn Adams Hewson is
3 highly commended for receiving The University of Alabama 2020
4 Distinguished Alumna Award, and we hereby dedicate this
5 resolution to her with heartiest appreciation, admiration, and
6 regard.
