8 HONORING CAPTAIN SEAN EDWARDS FOR PROFESSIONAL
9 ACHIEVEMENTS.

11 WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, we
12 highly honor Captain Sean Edwards for his many professional
13 achievements; and
14 WHEREAS, Captain Edwards was born in Queens, New
15 York, but reared in Birmingham, Alabama; he has over 27 years
16 of law enforcement experience, beginning his career with the
17 Birmingham Police Department in 1993; during his tenure, he
18 served as a Patrol Officer, Domestic Violence Detective,
19 Academy Instructor, Patrol Supervisor, Academy Training
20 Sergeant, Police Academy Director, Public Information Officer,
21 West Precinct Commander, Training Director, and the Commander
22 of Crimes Against Property Division; and
23 WHEREAS, Captain Edwards served over 22 years in the
24 United States Army Reserve; in 2002, he served for six months
25 as the Sub-Area Petroleum Officer for the Balkans, managing
26 the United States bulk petroleum in support of Operation Joint
27 Forge; also, he was deployed during Operation Enduring

1 Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as a
2 Petroleum Operations Officer at Camp Udari and as a Base Camp
3 Liaison at Camp Arifjan, both in Kuwait; in his last
4 assignment, he served as the Assistant Operations Officer at
5 the Deployment Support Command in Birmingham; in 2010, he
6 retired with the rank of Major; and
7 WHEREAS, Captain Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science
8 Degree in Criminal Justice from The University of Alabama at
9 Birmingham, where he was awarded the Distinguished Graduate of
10 the Reserve Officers Training Corps; and a Master of Science
11 Degree in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University in
12 Montgomery, Alabama; additionally, he is a graduate of the
13 distinguished FBI National Academy and the Southeastern Law
14 Enforcement Executive Development Course; a member of the
15 International Association of Chiefs of Police; a member on the
16 Board of Jefferson County Family Resource Center; and the
17 founder and Senior Pastor of Empowerment Word Church in
18 Alabaster; from 2013 to 2015, he served part-time as an
19 Adjunct Professor at Miles College; and
20 WHEREAS, Captain Edwards and his wife, Gwendolyn,
21 have been married for 28 years and are the proud parents of
22 Sean Emory, Silas, and Starla; and
23 WHEREAS, a man of selflessness and diligence,
24 Captain Edwards is an inspiration to many; now therefore,
25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
26 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Captain Sean Edwards is
27 highly honored for his many professional achievements, and we
