5 MOURNING THE DEATH OF FRANK RIVES HOUSTON.

7 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
8 death on April 7, 2021, of Frank Rives Houston, at the age of
9 80; and
10 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
11 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
12 where he was highly regarded; Mr. Houston was born to Leonard
13 Preston Houston and Matilda Rives Houston; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Houston graduated from Huntingdon
15 College; he worked at Alfa Insurance for 37 years beginning as
16 an Underwriter in 1963; he progressed quickly to Chief
17 Auditor, Manager of Data Processing, and then to Vice
18 President; he held several Vice President positions during his
19 career; he was instrumental to Alfa's success and growth; he
20 was often tasked with setting up new departments, fixing
21 broken ones, or seeking technology to improve efficiency;
22 during his time at Alfa he directly influenced the company's
23 growth from an Alabama Fire Insurance provider to a
24 corporation that provides a full range of insurance protection

1 in multiple states; his leadership and mentoring helped
2 develop many successful employees; and
3 WHEREAS, Mr. Houston became Mayor of the Town of
4 Coosada in 1979; he worked with the Town Council to build the
5 Town Hall and Fire Station; he was instrumental in the
6 planning and building of the Montgomery Expressway Toll
7 Bridge; he was heavily involved with the planning and
8 acquisition of land for the Coosada and Alabama River
9 Parkways; he was an active member of Millbrook First United
10 Methodist Church; and
11 WHEREAS, he is predeceased by his parents; wife,
12 Mildred "Mit" Cobb Houston; daughter, Frances Bernice Houston;
13 and brother, Robert "Rob" Houston; and
14 WHEREAS, he is survived by sons, Steve Houston
15 (Sandy) and Jim Houston (Donna); brother, John Houston (Rita);
16 grandchildren, Cole Houston, Reagan Houston, Tyson Houston,
17 Jarrett Houston, Cody Cowan (Lauren), and Nick Cowan; and a
18 host of other relatives and many friends; now therefore,
19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
20 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Frank Rives
21 Houston is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
22 offered in tribute to his life, along with heartfelt sympathy
23 to his family, whose grief is shared by many.
