8 COMMENDING DR. KATHY MURPHY ON BEING NAMED PRESIDENT
9 OF GADSDEN STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

11 WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
12 presented to Dr. Kathy Murphy on being named President of
13 Gadsden State Community College; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Kathy Murphy began her extensive and
15 impressive 37-year career in education as a physical education
16 teacher at Auburn Junior High School in 1984; she attained a
17 Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from Troy
18 University; from Auburn University at Montgomery, she obtained
19 a Master's Degree and Education Specialist Degree in
20 Educational Leadership, as well as a Doctorate in Physical
21 Education, Program Administration; and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Murphy's work experience includes
23 serving as an assistant professor at Judson College and the
24 University of West Georgia, and chairing the Physical
25 Education Department at Judson College; she has served as
26 principal at Greenville Middle School, Greenville High School,
27 and Charles Henderson High School in Troy; she has been an

1 administrative assistant for the Superintendent of Butler
2 County Schools; she was selected Superintendent of Monroe
3 County Schools in 2011; prior to becoming the President of
4 Gadsden State Community College, she was the Superintendent of
5 Hoover City Schools; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Murphy is a visionary educator with a
7 proven record of focusing on all aspects of the student
8 experience; in her new role as President, she intends on
9 increasing enrollment and enabling students to become
10 gainfully employed in the community; working with local school
11 superintendents to appeal to high school students; and
12 improving campus infrastructures; and
13 WHEREAS, the Alabama Community College System
14 Trustees and campus leadership extend their appreciation to
15 Dr. Kathy Murphy for her contributions to public education by
16 bestowing upon her the title of President of Gadsden State
17 Community College; now therefore,
18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
19 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we hereby commend Dr. Kathy
20 Murphy on being named the President of Gadsden State Community
21 College, and we offer this resolution to her in deepest
22 admiration for her significant contributions to public
23 education, as well as in sincere best wishes for her continued
24 success in all future endeavors.
