3 CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF A LEGEND, MR. ED DAVIS.

5 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
6 death on April 10, 2021, of Mr. Ed Davis, at the age of 95;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
9 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
10 where he was highly regarded; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born on May 25, 1925, in
12 Henry County, Alabama, to Vera Bulger and Wesley Davis; and
13 WHEREAS, a man with steadfast faith in God, Mr.
14 Davis was a lifelong member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist
15 Church in Eufala, Alabama, where he served as a member of the
16 deacon board and as the Sunday School Treasurer; he also
17 served organizations, including Union Grove District Congress
18 of Christian Education, where he served as President for over
19 20 years; and Masonic Lodge Number 563 in Lawrenceville,
20 Alabama, for 75 years; and
21 WHEREAS, on December 25, 1947, he married Bertha Lee
22 Green Davis, and 12 children were born to their union; in
23 1993, Mr. Davis received one of his most treasured
24 recognitions, the Tuskegee University Parents of the Year
25 Award, which he and his wife earned for their unwavering

1 commitment as several of their children were blessed to
2 receive a formal education from the university; and
3 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his lovely
4 wife, Bertha Lee Green Davis; devoted sons, Clarence Lee Davis
5 and Eddie Davis, Jr.; and siblings, Henry, Willie C. (Buddy),
6 Theresa, Ada, Mary Lou, and Lizzie; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis is survived by his children,
8 Annie Vera Brooks (Robert Brooks, Sr.), Mary Joyce Davis Brady
9 Carvana, Ethel L. Thomas (George), Henry Wesley Davis
10 (Angela), Elbert Davis, Jerry Davis (Sharon), Patricia A.
11 Wharton (Michael), Kenneth Davis, Keith Davis, and Cynthia J.
12 Davis; adopted brother, Christopher Scott (Stephanie);
13 daughter-in-law, Martha A. Jones Davis; 22 grandchildren,
14 Chandra D. Davis, Clarence Lee Davis (Kimberly), Nyuen O.
15 Brady, Derrick D. Davis, Devonna M. Carter, Robert E. Brooks
16 (Danielle), Elizabeth D. Watters (Jason), Brooke L. Davis, Dr.
17 Henry Wesley Davis, II, Brian Michael Davis, Amanda L. Thomas,
18 Jerry Davis, Jr., Brittany N. Davis, Justus K. Davis, Murcell
19 Wharton, Kenesha Davis, Kenneth Davis, Jr., Amina Wharton,
20 Kyle Davis, Arthur Terrell Turner, Maria Wharton, and Amani J.
21 Davis; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter;
22 and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and
23 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
24 missed, the memory of Mr. Davis will be cherished in the
25 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,

1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
2 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Mr. Ed Davis is
3 recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is offered in
4 tribute to his life, along with heartfelt sympathy to his
5 family, whose grief is shared by many.
