3 HONORING DR. DILHANI USWATTE, PRINCIPAL AT ROCKY
4 RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE HOOVER CITY SCHOOL SYSTEM, AS
5 THE 2020 ALABAMA NAESP NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPAL.

7 WHEREAS, the NAESP National Distinguished Principal
8 Program was established to recognize elementary school and
9 middle school level principals who set high standards for
10 instruction, student achievement, character, and climate for
11 the students, families, and staff in their learning
12 communities; and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Dilhani Uswatte was named the 2020
14 NAESP National Distinguished Principal from Alabama by the
15 Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators
16 (AAESA); and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Uswatte has served as the Principal of
18 Rocky Ridge Elementary School in the Hoover City School System
19 for six years; prior to her current position, she served as
20 the Assistant Principal at Rocky Ridge for four years and
21 taught mathematics at Berry Middle School for eight years; she
22 has been serving as a Principal since 2000; and
23 WHEREAS, she has served as the Co-Director of the
24 National Mentoring Program for the Milkin Family Foundation
25 and has been involved in many leadership positions in CLAS,

1 AAESA, ACLD, ALSDE, and The University of Alabama at
2 Birmingham; and
3 WHEREAS, Dr. Uswatte obtained her Bachelor's Degree
4 from Queens University in Canada, her Master's Degree and
5 Educational Specialist Degree from The University of Alabama
6 at Birmingham, and her Doctorate from The University of
7 Alabama at Birmingham in 2013; and
8 WHEREAS, she has always put her students first and
9 works tirelessly to create an atmosphere that allows her
10 teachers to be successful; furthermore, she has had a positive
11 impact on her school, school system, students, teachers, and
12 parents; and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Uswatte has been honored by The
14 University of Alabama at Birmingham, CLAS, AAESA, and the
15 Hoover City School System for her work and commitment to
16 everyone under her care; now therefore,
17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
18 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby commend and
19 congratulate Dr. Dilhani Uswatte upon the honor of being
20 selected as the 2020 Alabama NAESP National Distinguished
21 Principal.
