11 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
12 death of Mother Inell Porterfield Brown "Gran" at the age of
13 96; and
14 WHEREAS, her passing leaves a void in the lives of
15 her loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
16 where she was highly regarded; and
17 WHEREAS, Gran was born on April 12, 1924, in Lowndes
18 County, Alabama, to Oscar and Fannie Lou Porterfield; she was
19 reared by her stepmother, Emma D. Porterfield; and
20 WHEREAS, Gran accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and
21 Savior at an early age; and
22 WHEREAS, she was educated in the Birmingham City
23 School System; and
24 WHEREAS, in 1946, Gran married William McKinney;
25 later, she met and married Peter E. Brown, Sr., and they lived
26 in Titusville, Alabama, before moving to Dolomite, Alabama;

1 WHEREAS, a caring and selfless woman with a
2 passionate heart, Gran always put her family first; she indeed
3 touched the lives of many, and her beautiful legacy will
4 continue; and
5 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her second
6 husband, Peter E. Brown, Sr.; sons, Benny Brown, Timothy
7 Brown, Peter Brown, Jr., and Henry Brown; siblings, Daisy M.
8 Porterfield Rodgers, Ora L. Porterfield Maye, David L.
9 Porterfield, and Artis "Bo" Porterfield; two grandsons; and 10
10 sisters-in-law and bothers-in-law; and
11 WHEREAS, Gran is survived by her children, Earner
12 Henley (Ezekiel), Wayne McKinney (Toni), Bernadine Owens
13 (George), Dr. Fannie Brown-Albright, Reva Allen (Elijah), Dr.
14 Glenda G. Brown-Wade, Wendell Brown (Mary), Tara Garrett
15 (Patrick), and Richard Brown (Carrie); 50 grandchildren; 38
16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host
17 of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and
18 WHEREAS, although her presence will be greatly
19 missed, the memory of Gran will be cherished in the hearts of
20 all who knew and loved her; now therefore,
21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
22 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mother Inell
23 Porterfield Brown "Gran" is recorded with deep sadness, and
24 this resolution is offered in tribute to her life, along with
25 heartfelt sympathy to her family, whose grief is shared by
26 many.
