8 SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, the State Department of
9 Education, as a component of the Career and
10 Technical Education program, provides work-based
11 learning opportunities for public school students
12 throughout the state.
13 This bill would require each local board of
14 education to compile, maintain, and routinely
15 publish updated information regarding work-based
16 learning opportunities on the website of the local
17 board and any school under the jurisdiction of the
18 local board for which the information is
19 applicable.

25 Relating to public K-12 education; to require the
26 posting of information relating to work-based learning on the
27 website of each local board of education and school under the

1 jurisdiction of the local board for which the information is
2 applicable.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
4 Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section,
5 work-based learning opportunities include, but are not limited
6 to, all of the following:
7 (1) Cooperative education.
8 (2) Apprenticeship programs.
9 (3) Internships.
10 (4) Dual enrollment.
11 (5) Early college enrollment.
12 (6) Job or career shadowing.
13 (7) Supervised experience.
14 (8) Other programs approved by the State Department
15 of Education.
16 (b) Each local board of education shall compile and
17 maintain current information regarding available work-based
18 learning opportunities for eligible students including, but
19 not limited to, eligibility requirements, academic
20 prerequisites, application requirements, potential credit,
21 participation requirements, and other information as required
22 by the State Department of Education or determined necessary
23 by the local board of education.
24 (c) The information compiled pursuant to subsection
25 (b) shall be provided to eligible students during orientation
26 before the first day of each semester and shall be published,
27 and routinely updated, on the website of the local board of

1 education and on the website of each school under the
2 jurisdiction of the local board of education for which the
3 information is applicable.
4 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
5 first day of the third month following its passage and
6 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
