8 CELEBRATING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DR. WILSON
9 FALLIN, JR. LECTURE SERIES.

11 WHEREAS, The University of Montevallo has created
12 the Dr. Wilson Fallin, Jr. Lecture Series to highlight issues
13 related to diversity, inclusion, equity, history, and social
14 justice over the next year; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Fallin is Professor Emeritus of History
16 in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the
17 College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Montevallo
18 who has tirelessly served UM students, partnered with faculty,
19 and collaborated with staff for nearly three decades; and
20 WHEREAS, Dr. Fallin has been a consistent and
21 fearless supporter of numerous efforts in the area of civil
22 rights and social justice and has been a beloved friend to all
23 those who have made his acquaintance, including Dr. Martin
24 Luther King, Jr. himself; and
25 WHEREAS, he is a highly esteemed soldier in the
26 fight for civil rights and social justice, as well as a
27 scholar seeking to inform others of his work; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Fallin has served dutifully throughout
2 the State of Alabama, in the Birmingham and greater Birmingham
3 region in many roles, including President of Selma University
4 and Pastor of Oak Grove and New Zion Baptist Church; he has
5 also served The University of Montevallo as Director of
6 Minority Affairs and Professor of History; now therefore,
7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
8 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Dr. Wilson Fallin, Jr.
9 Lecture Series at The University of Montevallo will serve as a
10 fitting tribute to Dr. Fallin's legacy and as an important
11 educational service to the community; this resolution serves
12 to encourage individuals in Montevallo and surrounding
13 communities to participate in the series.
