2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to Washington County; to increase the
4 compensation of the county commission chair; to provide for a
5 mileage allowance for district commissioners.
6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
7 Section 1. (a) Beginning on the first day of the
8 month following the effective date of this act, the
9 compensation of the Chair of the Washington County Commission
10 shall be adjusted so that in addition to all other
11 compensation the salary will be increased by one thousand
12 ($1,000.00) dollars per month. The increase in compensation in
13 this subsection shall be paid as a monthly expense allowance
14 until the beginning of the next term of office or as otherwise
15 provided by law, at which time the amount of the expense
16 allowance shall be included in the base salary for the office
17 holders and the expense allowance shall be void. Deductions
18 from the expense allowance provided in this section shall be
19 made in the same manner as if the expense were salary as
20 provided in chapter 2A, Title 11 Code of Alabama 1975. As a
21 condition of receiving this additional compensation the chair
22 shall work on site at the offices of the commission on a
23 fulltime basis. The chair shall be elected annually in
24 November by majority vote of those members of the commission
25 present and voting.

1 (b) Beginning on the first day of October 2021, the
2 district commissioners of Washington County shall each receive
3 mileage reimbursement while using a personal vehicle at the
4 rate allowed by the Internal Revenue Service for deductible
5 purposes based on those miles driven within Washington County
6 while performing the duties of a district commissioner. This
7 compensation shall be paid from each district's monthly
8 funding. As a condition of receiving this reimbursement, a
9 daily log of all miles driven must be submitted each month.
10 Section 2. This act shall become effective
11 immediately following its passage and approval by the
12 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
