8 MOURNING THE DEATH OF DR. MICHAEL LARRY TUGGLE.

10 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
11 death of Dr. Michael Larry Tuggle of Alexander City, Alabama,
12 on February 26, 2021, at the age of 85 years; his passing
13 leaves a void in the lives of his loving family, many friends,
14 and the entire community, where he was highly regarded; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Tuggle was born on December 24, 1935,
16 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Venson Stony Tuggle and Geraldine
17 Richards Tuggle; he received his undergraduate degree in Civil
18 Engineering and lettered in Track at Auburn University; he
19 received his Master's degree and PhD in Environmental
20 Engineering from the University of Florida; and
21 WHEREAS, he proudly served his country in the United
22 States Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator and was discharged as a
23 Captain; he was employed by International Paper and later
24 became employed by Boeing on the Saturn V Rocket Program; he
25 was the founder of Thompson and Tuggle in Montgomery, Alabama,
26 which eventually became CH2M Hill; upon moving to Lake Martin,
27 he became employed with Russell Corporation where he served as

1 the Vice President of Environmental and Engineering Services;
2 he was an active volunteer for Main Street, LMRA, Habitat for
3 Humanity, and the Chamber of Commerce; he was also active in
4 his community and served on the Engineering Council at Auburn
5 University; in 1987, he was named Man of the Year by the
6 Chamber of Commerce before he renovated and owned the Shoppes
7 of the Queen's Attic; he was very involved in the Windermere
8 Community where he was a founding member of the volunteer fire
9 department and served as a volunteer fireman; he was an active
10 member of First United Methodist Church of Alexander City
11 where he sang in the choir and held numerous offices in the
12 church; and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Tuggle was predeceased by his parents
14 and brother, Gary Tuggle; his survivors include his beloved
15 wife of 62 years, Julia DeForest Tuggle; sons, Michael Tuggle,
16 Jr. (Vicki), Mark Tuggle (Michelle), Jeffrey Tuggle (Deanne),
17 and David Tuggle; grandchildren, DeForest Tuggle, William
18 Tuggle, Ben Tuggle, Sydney Tuggle, Ashley Tuggle, and Julia
19 Tuggle; brothers, Gale Tuggle (Sandy) and Rodney Tuggle
20 (Jody); and a host of other relatives and many friends;
21 although his presence will be greatly missed, the memories of
22 him will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved
23 him; now therefore,
24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
25 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Dr. Michael
26 Larry Tuggle is recorded with deep sadness, and this
