8 COMMENDING THE COOSA VALLEY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE
9 BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

11 WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
12 extended to the Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative Board of
13 Directors; and
14 WHEREAS, established in 1939 to provide electric
15 service, the Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) serves
16 17,500 consumers in Calhoun, Clay, Etowah, Shelby, St. Clair,
17 and Talladega Counties; the Cooperative's mission is to
18 provide reliable and affordable Internet service, and it is
19 dedicated to improving the communities that it serves;
20 furthermore, CVEC is committed to helping its communities
21 grow; it has already attracted and developed more than 16
22 industries, which have brought 4,000 jobs to the area; and
23 WHEREAS, on September 12, 2020, the CVEC Board of
24 Directors allowed the Cooperative members to vote on whether
25 or not CVEC would join the broadband Internet service
26 business, and the members responded with an overwhelming
27 majority vote in favor; and

1 WHEREAS, the CVEC Board of Directors responded to
2 requests from members for broadband Internet service and
3 recognized a profound lack of broadband Internet service
4 throughout the majority of its service territory; the CVEC
5 Board of Directors then established Coosa Valley Technologies
6 for the purpose of providing broadband Internet,
7 voice-over-Internet-protocol telephone, and potentially
8 television services to its electric consumers and other
9 consumers; the mission of Coosa Valley Technologies is to
10 provide faster broadband and better service; the CVEC Board of
11 Directors has decreed that it will construct an all-new
12 Fiber-To-The-Premise network that is capable of providing
13 speeds up to 10 gigabits per second; and
14 WHEREAS, the Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative
15 Manager is Leland Fuller, and the Coosa Valley Electric
16 Cooperative Board of Directors includes President Mary Land,
17 Vice President John M. Davis, Secretary Buddy Watson, and
18 members, Marilyn Davis, Robert Dixon, Sammy Gallman, and
19 Michael Hubbard; everyone involved is indeed greatly
20 appreciated for the outstanding service that they provide; now
21 therefore,
22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
23 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Coosa Valley Electric
24 Cooperative Board of Directors is highly commended, and this
25 resolution hereby serves as a tribute to the Cooperative in
26 warmest gratitude, admiration, and regard.
