8 HONORING REVEREND WATSON WASDEN FOR 54 YEARS OF
9 DEDICATED SERVICE TO ANTIOCH WEST BAPTIST CHURCH.

11 WHEREAS, it is a privilege to highly honor Reverend
12 Watson Wasden for 54 years of dedicated service to Antioch
13 West Baptist Church; and
14 WHEREAS, Reverend Wasden served Antioch West Baptist
15 Church from January 7, 1967, to January 10, 2021; leading many
16 souls to Jesus Christ, he gave a multitude of powerful
17 sermons, performed countless baptisms, united numerous couples
18 in holy matrimony, and directed many funerals; he has stated,
19 "Fifty-four years here at Antioch West, and it has been a
20 privilege to serve this church. I am very appreciative of the
21 church, its members, and the deacons"; before joining the
22 ministry, Reverend Wasden served as a Deacon and a Music
23 Director for Antioch West Baptist Church for 11 years; and
24 WHEREAS, his final message as Reverend to the church
25 was about the importance of keeping Christ at the center of
26 life; he proclaimed, "To be successful in anything you do,
27 Christ must be at the center of everything you do. We cannot

1 afford to leave God out of our life. For a church to be
2 effective in a community, Christ must be at the center. When
3 Christ is at the center of the church, the church will lead
4 the community. If you turn to God, seek Him, and trust Him, He
5 will bless you. A house shall stand and never decay where the
6 all mighty God is worshipped day by day"; at the end of the
7 sermon, Deacon Doug Thomas presented Reverend Wasden with a
8 plaque of appreciation for 54 years of service and with a
9 letter of recognition from the Alabama Historical Commission;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, for over five decades, Reverend Wasden has
12 been touching and blessing many lives; a man with a
13 compassionate and selfless heart, he is truly a gift from God;
14 now therefore,
15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
16 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Reverend Watson Wasden is
17 warmly honored for committing 54 years of unwavering service
18 to Antioch West Baptist Church, and this resolution hereby
19 serves as a tribute to him with heartfelt gratitude and
20 admiration, along with sincere best wishes for continued
21 success and happiness during his retirement.
