8 SYNOPSIS: This bill would create an additional circuit
9 judgeship, designated Circuit Judgeship Number 6,
10 in the Twenty-eighth Judicial Circuit comprised of
11 Baldwin County, an additional circuit judgeship,
12 designated Circuit Judgeship Number 12, in the
13 Thirteenth Judicial Circuit comprised of Mobile
14 County, an additional circuit judgeship, designated
15 Circuit Judgeship Number 8, in the Twenty-third
16 Judicial Circuit comprised of Madison County, an
17 additional circuit judgeship, designated Circuit
18 Judgeship Number 4, in the Thirty-seventh Judicial
19 Circuit comprised of Lee County, an additional
20 circuit judgeship, designated Circuit Judgeship
21 Number 2, in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit
22 comprised of Marengo, Greene, and Sumter Counties,
23 and an additional circuit judgeship, designated
24 Circuit Judgeship Number 4, in the Eleventh
25 Judicial Circuit comprised of Lauderdale County.

7 AN ACT

9 To provide for an additional circuit judgeship in
10 the Twenty-eighth Judicial Circuit comprised of Baldwin
11 County; to provide for an additional circuit judgeship in the
12 Thirteenth Judicial Circuit comprised of Mobile County; to
13 provide for an additional circuit judgeship in the
14 Twenty-third Judicial Circuit comprised of Madison County; to
15 provide for an additional circuit judgeship in the
16 Thirty-seventh Judicial Circuit comprised of Lee County; to
17 provide for an additional circuit judgeship in the Seventeenth
18 Judicial Circuit comprised of Marengo, Greene, and Sumter
19 Counties; to provide for an additional circuit judgeship in
20 the Eleventh Judicial Circuit comprised of Lauderdale County;
21 and to provide for the authority of the judges and for the
22 compensation of the judges.
23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
24 Section 1. (a) There is created an additional
25 circuit judgeship for the Twenty-eighth Judicial Circuit which
26 shall be designated Circuit Judgeship Number 6.

1 (b) There is created an additional circuit judgeship
2 for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit which shall be designated
3 as Circuit Judgeship Number 12.
4 (c) There is created an additional circuit judgeship
5 for the Twenty-third Judicial Circuit which shall be
6 designated as Circuit Judgeship Number 8.
7 (d) There is created an additional circuit judgeship
8 for the Thirty-seventh Judicial Circuit which shall be
9 designated as Circuit Judgeship Number 4.
10 (e) There is created an additional circuit judgeship
11 for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit which shall be designated
12 as Circuit Judgeship Number 2.
13 (f) There is created an additional circuit judgeship
14 for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit which shall be designated as
15 Circuit Judgeship Number 4.
16 (g) Circuit Judgeship Number 6 in the Twenty-eighth
17 Judicial Circuit, Circuit Judgeship Number 12 in the
18 Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, Circuit Judgeship Number 8 in the
19 Twenty-third Judicial Circuit, Circuit Judgeship Number 4 in
20 the Thirty-seventh Judicial Circuit, Circuit Judgeship Number
21 2 in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, and Circuit Judgeship
22 Number 4 in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit shall be filled in
23 the manner appropriate to fill a vacancy in their respective
24 circuits, effective October 1, 2021.
25 (h) The initial judges appointed to the additional
26 circuit judgeships pursuant to this section shall serve

1 pursuant to Section 153 of the Constitution of Alabama of
2 1901.
3 (i) The judges appointed to the additional circuit
4 judgeships pursuant to this section shall have and shall
5 exercise all the jurisdiction, power, rights, and authority
6 and shall possess all of the qualifications, perform all of
7 the duties, and shall be subject to all of the
8 responsibilities and duties of the office to which other
9 circuit judges are subject.
10 (j) The annual compensation of the circuit judges
11 serving pursuant to this section shall be in accordance with
12 Chapter 10A of Title 12, Code of Alabama 1975, including, but
13 not limited to, the provision that no circuit judge first
14 elected or appointed to office after October 1, 2001, shall be
15 provided a salary supplement or expense allowance.
16 Section 2. This act shall become effective
17 immediately following its passage and approval by the
18 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
