8 SYNOPSIS: This bill would propose an amendment to the
9 Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to provide that
10 the implementation date for any bill enacted by the
11 Legislature in a calendar year in which a general
12 election is to be held and relating to the conduct
13 of the general election shall be at least six
14 months before the general election.

20 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of
21 Alabama of 1901, to provide that the implementation date for
22 any bill enacted by the Legislature in a calendar year in
23 which a general election is to be held and relating to the
24 conduct of the general election shall be at least six months
25 before the general election.
26 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

1 Section 1. The following amendment to the
2 Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, is proposed and
3 shall become valid as a part thereof when approved by a
4 majority of the qualified electors voting thereon and in
5 accordance with Sections 284, 285, and 287 of the Constitution
6 of Alabama of 1901, as amended:
7 PROPOSED AMENDMENT
8 The implementation date for any bill enacted by the
9 Legislature in a calendar year in which a general election is
10 to be held and relating to the conduct of the general election
11 shall be at least six months before the general election.
12 Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment
13 shall be held in accordance with Sections 284 and 285 of the
14 Constitution of Alabama of 1901, now appearing as Sections 284
15 and 285 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of
16 Alabama of 1901, as amended, and the election laws of this
17 state.
18 Section 3. The appropriate election official shall
19 assign a ballot number for the proposed constitutional
20 amendment on the election ballot and shall set forth the
21 following description of the substance or subject matter of
22 the proposed constitutional amendment:
23 "Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of
24 Alabama of 1901, as amended; to provide that the
25 implementation date for any bill enacted by the Legislature in
26 a calendar year in which a general election is to be held and

1 relating to the conduct of the general election shall be at
2 least six months before the general election."
