5 RECOGNIZING MARCH 2021 AS NATIONAL WOMEN'S HISTORY
6 MONTH.

8 WHEREAS, it is with immense pride and pleasure that
9 we recognize March 2021 as National Women's History Month;
10 highlighting and spreading awareness of the importance of
11 women in the history and the contemporary society of the
12 United States; and
13 WHEREAS, for generations, women of every race,
14 class, and ethnic background have made significant and
15 historic contributions to the growth and strength of our
16 society in countless recorded and unrecorded ways; the theme
17 of this year's National Women's Month: "Valiant Women of the
18 Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced" honors women who sought to
19 change the laws, giving women the right to vote and have
20 political equality; and
21 WHEREAS, women led the efforts to secure suffrage
22 and equal opportunity for all; suffragists wrote, marched,
23 were arrested, and ultimately succeeded in achieving voting
24 rights for women of all races; women served in the
25 abolitionist movement, the emancipation movement, labor

1 movement, civil rights movement, and many other charitable,
2 philanthropic, and cultural causes to create a more fair and
3 just society for everyone; and
4 WHEREAS, women have been and continue to be leaders
5 in the forefront for social change efforts in business,
6 science, government, math, art, literature, music, film, and
7 athletics; and
8 WHEREAS, many visionary women championed the way,
9 opening the door in 2021 for the first female Vice-President
10 of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, and paving the
11 way for a record number of women to be elected to public
12 office; women have realized and achieved their full potential
13 as equal members of society in the United States; women now
14 represent half of the workforce of the United States, own
15 10,000,000 businesses, enroll in medical and law school in
16 record numbers, and bravely serve in the Armed Forces; and
17 WHEREAS, the earnest efforts and significant
18 successes of women have given voice to the unrepresented and
19 hope to all of those who dream of equality and of a better
20 future; we take time to reflect on the many notable
21 contributions that women have made and continue to make for
22 the United States of America; now therefore,
23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
24 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we extend sincere gratitude to
25 the women of the United States and we are indeed proud to
