8 SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, if a state does not have
9 a minimum wage or the state minimum wage is less
10 than the federal minimum wage, the federal minimum
11 wage applies.
12 This bill would establish a state minimum
13 wage of $10 per hour or the federal minimum wage,
14 whichever is higher.

18 AN ACT

20 Relating to employment wages; to require employers
21 to pay employees a minimum wage of $10 per hour or the federal
22 minimum wage, whichever is higher.
23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
24 Section 1. Beginning January 1, 2022, employers
25 shall pay employees a minimum wage of the higher of the
26 following rates:
27 (1) Ten dollars ($10) per hour.

1 (2) The prevailing federal minimum wage.
2 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
3 first day of the third month following its passage and
4 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
