3 PROCLAIMING APRIL 2021 AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
4 MONTH.

6 WHEREAS, preventing child abuse and neglect is a
7 community focus that depends on involvement among people
8 throughout the community; and
9 WHEREAS, child maltreatment occurs when people find
10 themselves in stressful situations without community resources
11 and not knowing how to cope; and
12 WHEREAS, the majority of child abuse cases stem from
13 situations and conditions that are preventable in an engaged
14 and supportive community; and
15 WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect can be reduced by
16 making sure that each family has the support needed to rear
17 children in a healthy environment; and
18 WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect not only directly
19 harm children, but also increase the likelihood of criminal
20 behavior, substance abuse, health problems such as heart
21 disease and obesity, and risky behavior such as smoking; and
22 WHEREAS, all citizens should become involved in
23 supporting families in rearing children in a safe, nurturing
24 environment; and

1 WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention programs
2 succeed because of partnerships created among social service
3 agencies, schools, faith communities, civic organizations, law
4 enforcement agencies, and the business community; now
5 therefore,
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
7 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That on behalf of the Department of
8 Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, The Children's Trust Fund,
9 The Alabama Department of Human Resources and Prevent Child
10 Abuse Alabama, we hereby proclaim April 2021 as Child Abuse
11 Prevention Month in the State of Alabama and call upon all
12 citizens, community agencies, medical facilities, and
13 businesses to increase their participation in efforts to
14 support families, thereby preventing child abuse and
15 strengthening the communities in which we live.
