18 Relating to education; to require the approval of
19 the local board of education for the physical location of a
20 public K-12 school to be closed for more than 10 consecutive
21 school days, under certain emergency circumstances.
22 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
23 Section 1. (a) In extreme circumstances involving
24 extenuating circumstances, a county or city superintendent of
25 education may order the temporary closure of a physical
26 location of a public K-12 school under his or her
27 jurisdiction, cessation of extracurricular activities and

1 school-sanctioned activities, and the establishment of online
2 instruction, in lieu of in-person education instruction, for a
3 period of no more than 10 consecutive school days. The closure
4 of a physical location of a public K-12 school, cessation of
5 extracurricular activities and school-sanctioned activities,
6 and implementation of online learning for more than 10
7 consecutive school days shall require the approval of the
8 applicable local board of education.
9 (b) If this section is inconsistent with an order,
10 rule, or regulation adopted pursuant to the Alabama Emergency
11 Management Act of 1955, this section shall not be suspended by
12 that order, rule, or regulation.
13 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
14 first day of the third month following its passage and
15 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
