2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to the Alabama National Guard; to extend
4 access to facilities owned by the Alabama National Guard to
5 certain veterans and their caregivers.
6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
7 Section 1. (a) As used in this section, the
8 following terms shall have the following meanings:
9 (1) CAREGIVER. The same meaning as provided in 38
10 U.S.C. 1720G(d), or its successor, if any.
11 (2) FAMILY CAREGIVER. The same meaning as provided
12 in 38 U.S.C. 1720G(d), or its successor, if any.
13 (3) FORMER PRISONER OF WAR. The same meaning as
14 provided in 38 U.S.C. 101, or its successor, if any.
15 (4) MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT. The same meaning as
16 provided in 10 U.S.C 1074H(c), or its successor, if any.
17 (5) SERVICE-CONNECTED. The same meaning as provided
18 in 38 U.S.C. 101, or its successor, if any.
19 (6) VETERAN. The same meaning as provided in 38
20 U.S.C. 101, or its successor, if any.
21 (b) In addition to all other benefits, the following
22 persons shall be permitted to use the facilities owned by the
23 Alabama National Guard on the same basis as a member of the
24 United States Armed Forces who is entitled to retired or
25 retainer pay:

1 (1) A veteran who is a Medal of Honor recipient.
2 (2) A veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart.
3 (3) A veteran who is a former prisoner of war.
4 (4) A veteran with a service-connected disability.
5 (5) A caregiver or a family caregiver of a veteran.
6 (c) The Adjutant General of the Alabama National
7 Guard is authorized to adopt rules necessary to implement this
8 section.
9 (d) Nothing in this section is deemed to limit the
10 authority of the Alabama National Guard to control access to
11 locations or facilities in order to maintain security and good
12 order.
13 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
14 first day of the third month following its passage and
15 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
