5 MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. JOHN W. MORRIS.

7 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
8 death on February 15, 2021, of Mr. John W. Morris, at the age
9 of 82; and
10 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
11 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
12 where he was highly regarded; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Morris served in the United States
14 Navy, and he was a lifelong farmer, President of the Alabama
15 Soil and Water Conservation Committee, President of the
16 Alabama Cattleman's Association, a member and the President of
17 the Jefferson County Farmers Federation, where he was a
18 respected voice and where he ensured that the large Jefferson
19 County legislative delegation understood the issues of concern
20 to farmers and rural residents; he was elected to the Farmers
21 Federation State Board of Directors in 1983, and he was
22 elected Vice President for the Central Region in 1991, serving
23 until 1999; later, he was re-elected President of the
24 Jefferson County Farmers Federation, where he made

1 agricultural education a priority for the county organization,
2 the classroom, and in community service projects; and
3 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents,
4 John Roger and Maytle Morris; daughter, Debra Ann Engler
5 Campbell; and brother, Roger Alan Morris; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Pauline
7 B. Morris; children, John W. Morris, II (Laurie), Cathy Hannah
8 (Nelson), Julie Hooper (Steve), Charles Engler, Donna Melvin
9 (Johnny), and Kelly Shoemaker (Mike); sister, Mary Jewel Nail
10 (Richard); sister-in-law, Sue Morris; 14 grandchildren; 25
11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of
12 nieces and nephews; and
13 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
14 missed, the memory of Mr. Morris will be cherished in the
15 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
17 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Mr. John W.
18 Morris is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
19 offered in tribute to his life, along with heartfelt sympathy
20 to his family, whose grief is shared by many.
