5 COMMENDING ALABAMA'S 2020 EXPORT SALES AND
6 RECOGNIZING ALABAMA'S INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND EXPORT
7 PROFESSIONALS, TRADE PARTNERSHIPS, AND ALABAMA BUSINESSES THAT
8 EXPORT THEIR PRODUCTS.

10 WHEREAS, Alabama's international exports continue to
11 be one of the state's most powerful economic engines; and
12 WHEREAS, despite the challenges of these
13 unprecedented times, Alabama has maintained and, in fact,
14 strengthened its reputation as a reliable exporter of the
15 finest products and services; and
16 WHEREAS, demonstrating an abiding dedication to
17 productivity and growth in an unparalleled and unpredictable
18 year of turbulence in global trade, exports of goods and
19 services from Alabama were shipped to 190 countries and
20 totaled $17.13 billion in 2020; and
21 WHEREAS, Alabama ranked 25th in the nation for
22 dollar value of exports in 2020; and
23 WHEREAS, Alabama provides a variety of products
24 worldwide, such as, vehicles, transportation equipment,

1 agricultural products, chemicals, minerals, iron, steel,
2 machinery, and paper products; and
3 WHEREAS, Alabama's largest export category is
4 transportation equipment, totaling $8.17 billion; and
5 WHEREAS, Alabama is ranked as the nation's fourth
6 largest auto-exporting state; and
7 WHEREAS, exports of Alabama's agricultural products
8 witnessed an impressive growth rate of 196.7 percent to total
9 $392.35 million; livestock exports grew 10 percent to reach
10 $108.8 million; fish exports rose 44.7 percent to $4.3
11 million; and
12 WHEREAS, other significant gains in 2020 included
13 medical equipment and supplies exports growing by 53.8 percent
14 to reach $151.5 million; Alabama's forest product exports
15 totaled $10.7 million in 2020, an increase of 22.8 percent
16 over the previous year; while printing and publishing related
17 exports jumped to $3.3 million, up nearly 29 percent; and
18 WHEREAS, the worldwide demand for quality goods and
19 services in Alabama exports are much sought after by
20 international consumers and Alabama-based products are second
21 to none in quality and excellence and Alabama's unique ability
22 to meet worldwide demand; and
23 WHEREAS, Alabama's business community, long known
24 for its resilience and ability to innovate during these

1 unprecedented times, continues to make strides that promise
2 long term growth in 2021; and
3 WHEREAS, we recognize and commend Alabama's
4 professional trade community; the Alabama Department of
5 Commerce, the Alabama Department of Agriculture and
6 Industries, the Port of Mobile, Export Alabama Alliance, trade
7 organization and trade research groups; Alabama's
8 manufacturing and transportation sectors, agriculture, and
9 small businesses that export their products worldwide; and the
10 hard working men and women who are the backbone of Alabama's
11 export community; now therefore,
12 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
13 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That international trade enhances
14 the quality of life for all Alabamians and contributes to the
15 state's economy and prosperity, and sustains thousands of high
16 paying jobs; we congratulate all of those who contributed to
17 Alabama's exports performance in 2020; and we encourage the
18 continued growth of Alabama's exports to the global
19 marketplace.
