8 SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, no person may campaign
9 within 30 feet of the door of the building of a
10 polling place.
11 This bill would clarify that the distance
12 from a polling place within which an individual may
13 not campaign is to be measured from the door of the
14 building of a polling place where voting machines
15 are located.

21 Relating to voting; to amend Section 17-9-50, Code
22 of Alabama 1975, to clarify that the distance from a polling
23 place within which an individual may not campaign is to be
24 measured from the door of the building of a polling place
25 where voting machines are located.
26 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

1 Section 1. Section 17-9-50, Code of Alabama 1975, is
2 amended to read as follows:
3 "17-9-50.
4 "Except as electors and individuals to assist them
5 are admitted to vote and persons to assist them as herein
6 provided, and except for the judge of probate, the sheriff, or
7 his or her deputy, the precinct election officials, and
8 watchers, no person individual shall be permitted within 30
9 feet of the door of the building of the polling place. For
10 purposes of this section, 30 feet shall be measured from the
11 door of the building in which voting machines are located."
12 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
13 first day of the third month following its passage and
14 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
