2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to motor vehicles; to amend Section
4 32-5C-2, Code of Alabama 1975; to provide for an exception to
5 the prohibition on the operation of vehicles with tinted
6 windows for personal vehicles of active or retired state,
7 local, or federal law enforcement officers.
8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
9 Section 1. Section 32-5C-2, Code of Alabama 1975, is
10 amended to read as follows:
11 "32-5C-2.
12 "(a) Except as provided in this chapter, a person
13 shall not operate a motor vehicle registered in this state
14 under either of the following conditions:
15 "(1) With material or glazing applied or affixed to
16 the front windshield which reduces light transmission through
17 the front windshield.
18 "(2) With material or glazing applied or affixed to
19 the rear windshield or the side or door windows which reduce
20 light transmission through the rear windshield or side windows
21 to less than 32 percent or increase light reflectance to more
22 than 20 percent, with a measurement tolerance of at least 3
23 percent. The light transmission shall be measured with a
24 device or instrument capable of measuring light transmission
25 before a person may be charged with a violation of this

1 section, and the officer shall be equipped with such a meter
2 before stopping the driver.
3 "(b) This section does not apply to any personal use
4 vehicles belonging to, and occupied by, any active or retired
5 state, local, or federal law enforcement officer."
6 "(c) All active or retired state, local, or federal
7 law enforcement officers shall carry law enforcement
8 identification while driving their personal use vehicles
9 referenced in subsection (b)."
10 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
11 first day of the third month following its passage and
12 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
