8 COMMENDING MR. J. FREDERICK JOHNSON FOR BEING
9 ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF THE RURAL BROADBAND ASSOCIATION.

11 WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, we
12 extend highest commendations to Mr. J. Frederick "Fred"
13 Johnson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Farmers
14 Telecommunications Cooperative in Rainsville, Alabama, for
15 being elected Chairman of the Rural Broadband Association; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson, a native of Mentone, Alabama,
17 joined the Farmers Telecommunications Cooperative in 1993 as
18 its Chief Financial Officer and has been serving as its Chief
19 Executive Officer since 2002; the Farmers Telecommunications
20 Cooperative is Alabama's largest member-owned
21 telecommunications provider; Mr. Johnson's career in the
22 fields of public accounting, rural electric distribution, and
23 telecommunications spans over 38 years; and
24 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson's other achievements include,
25 but are not limited to, recently concluding eight years of
26 service as a public member of the Commission on Accreditation
27 of the Association for Biblical Higher Education; writing a

1 bi-monthly column for his organization's magazine, "Connected
2 Online"; and writing for other industry publications on
3 numerous issues; having published articles in two professional
4 journals on the application of general cost of capital theory
5 to the cooperatively owned business environment; holding both
6 a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts
7 Degree in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan
8 University in Central, South Carolina; holding a Master of
9 Business Administration Degree from The University of
10 Tennessee at Chattanooga; being a Certified Public Accountant
11 since 1984; and being a member of the American Institute of
12 Certified Public Accountants, the Alabama Society of Certified
13 Public Accountants, and the National Society of Accountants
14 for Cooperatives; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson and his wife, Susan Millwood
16 Johnson, have three children, Phillip, Paige, and Peyton; a
17 daughter-in-law, Page; two sons-in-law, Marcus and Daniel; and
18 four grandchildren, Parker, Quinn, Tucker, and Bo; Mr. and
19 Mrs. Johnson attend Broadway Baptist Church, where they are
20 actively involved in the church's ministries; and
21 WHEREAS, a man of unwavering diligence, Mr. Johnson
22 inspires many; now therefore,
23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
24 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Mr. J. Frederick "Fred"
25 Johnson is highly commended for being elected Chairman of the
26 Rural Broadband Association, and we hereby dedicate this
