2 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution,
3 RECOGNIZING THE ALABAMA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC AUTHORITY
4 ON ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY.
5
6 WHEREAS, in 1981, the Alabama Municipal Electric
7 Authority (AMEA) Enabling Legislation was passed by the
8 Alabama Legislature; and Governor Fob James signed this
9 legislation allowing Alabama municipal electric utilities to
10 form AMEA as a public corporation to provide dependable,
11 economical electric power and other services; and
12 WHEREAS, AMEA's leaders saw the establishment of the
13 joint action agency as a means to build economies of scale in
14 collective wholesale electricity activities and to effectively
15 accomplish more together than was possible separately; and
16 WHEREAS, because of its vision and perseverance,
17 AMEA has become a valued partner in Alabama's electric utility
18 community, and because of that vision, AMEA Members, including
19 Alexander City, Dothan, Fairhope, Foley, LaFayette, Lanett,
20 Luverne, Opelika, Piedmont, Sylacauga, and Tuskegee, are
21 committed more than ever to Joint Action as they are
22 benefiting from AMEA's power supply initiatives, resources,
23 competitive rates, and selected value-added programs and
24 services; and

5 Project and the AMEA-Sylacauga Plant, as well as renewable
6 projects, including solar research projects and utility-scale
7 solar, and electric vehicle infrastructure; and
8 WHEREAS, over the past 40 years, AMEA has been a
9 low-cost power supplier for its members and has also provided
10 value-added services, including distribution services support,
11 regulatory compliance and territorial support, and economic
12 development support programs, just to name a few; now
13 therefore,
14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
15 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we honor and congratulate the
