2 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution,
3 MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. DAVID EARL HAMPE, JR.
4
5 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
6 death on March 7, 2020, of Mr. David Earl Hampe, Jr., at the
7 age of 82; and
8 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
9 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
10 where he was highly regarded; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Hampe was born on January 21, 1938, to
12 David and Willeen Hampe; and
13 WHEREAS, upon earning his diploma from Shades Valley
14 High School, Mr. Hampe served with the Marine Corps;
15 subsequently, he attended The University of Alabama, where he
16 received a Degree in Business and was a member of Phi Delta
17 Theta Fraternity; he then attended Cumberland School of Law,
18 where he received a Juris Doctor Degree; and
19 WHEREAS, a man of diligence, Mr. Hampe practiced law
20 for over 50 years; was a longtime advocate for Save A Life
21 Ministries; participated in the March for Life each year;
22 served as Chairman of the board for the Salvation Army and for
23 The Muscular Dystrophy Association; was a longtime member of
24 Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder;

1 served on the Briarwood School Board; and was a member of
2 Church of the Highlands for the past 14 years; and
3 WHEREAS, Mr. Hampe enjoyed barbequing for his family
4 and friends, watching Alabama football, playing musical
5 instruments, and dancing; and
6 WHEREAS, he is survived by his loving wife, Gloria
7 Hightower Hampe; daughters, Heather Johnston (Bruce), Holly
8 Farmer (Jon), and Lucy Smith (Henry); grandchildren, David
9 Johnston, Mallory Johnston Kellum, Hampe Farmer (Ginny), Jack
10 Farmer, Charlie Smith, Hadley Smith, and Vivian Smith; and
11 great-grandchildren, Joy Kellum and Lily Kellum; and
12 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
13 missed, the memory of Mr. Hampe will be cherished in the
14 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
16 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Mr. David Earl
17 Hampe, Jr., is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution
18 is offered in tribute to his life, along with heartfelt
19 sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by many.
