2 ENROLLED, An Act,
3 Relating to education; to provide for the broadcast
4 of public K-12 school sporting events.
5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
6 Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the
7 following terms have the following meanings:
8 (1) BROADCAST. To transmit or exhibit video or audio
9 in any medium or manner accessible by televisions, radios,
10 computers, or other Internet enabled devices.
11 (2) COVER. To observe for reporting purposes and
12 conduct broadcasts of the event being reported.
13 (3) MEDIA ORGANIZATION. A newspaper, news wire,
14 radio station, television station, television network,
15 website, or other organization that publishes or broadcasts,
16 at regular intervals, print, digital, or audio media.
17 (b) No individual, firm, corporation, association,
18 or educational institution shall interfere with or restrict in
19 any manner the ability of media organizations to cover, in any
20 form or format, sporting events involving public K-12 schools,
21 and public K-12 schools shall allow media organizations and
22 their personnel reasonable access to those events.
23 (b) No individual, firm, corporation, or association
24 shall interfere with or restrict in any manner the ability of
25 media organizations to cover or broadcast, in any form or

1 format, regular season sporting events involving schools,
2 grades K through 12. Each school, grades K through 12, shall
3 have the sole authority to determine what media organization
4 or media organizations are permitted to cover or broadcast a
5 regular season sporting event and to contract for the
6 broadcast of regular season sporting events involving that
7 school.
8 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
9 first day of the third month following its passage and
10 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
