12 TO BE ENTITLED
13 AN ACT

15 Relating to education; to provide for the broadcast
16 of public K-12 school sporting events.
17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
18 Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the
19 following terms have the following meanings:
20 (1) BROADCAST. To transmit or exhibit video or audio
21 in any medium or manner accessible by televisions, radios,
22 computers, or other Internet enabled devices.
23 (2) COVER. To observe for reporting purposes and
24 conduct broadcasts of the event being reported.
25 (3) MEDIA ORGANIZATION. A newspaper, news wire,
26 radio station, television station, television network,

1 website, or other organization that publishes or broadcasts,
2 at regular intervals, print, digital, or audio media.
3 (b) No individual, firm, corporation, association,
4 or educational institution shall interfere with or restrict in
5 any manner the ability of media organizations to cover, in any
6 form or format, sporting events involving public K-12 schools,
7 and public K-12 schools shall allow media organizations and
8 their personnel reasonable access to those events.
9 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
10 first day of the third month following its passage and
11 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
