8 RECOGNIZING MARCH 15-21, 2020, AS NATIONAL SURVEYORS
9 WEEK IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA.

11 WHEREAS, the practice of land surveying includes
12 many unique functions including locating, relocating,
13 establishing, reestablishing, laying out, or retracing
14 property lines or boundaries on tracts of land; and
15 WHEREAS, roots dating back to ancient Egypt
16 demonstrate the need for societies to identify and lay out
17 boundary lines to establish property rights; the expeditions
18 of Lewis and Clark contributed to historical mapping of the
19 United States; and
20 WHEREAS, surveying property requires long hours in
21 varying terrains performing various types of mapping and
22 surveying including geodetic, hydrographic, engineering,
23 cartographic, and topographical surveys, to gather data to
24 establish land ownership, infrastructure, and geographic
25 information for systems development, and implementing
26 technological advancements; and

1 WHEREAS, surveyors make invaluable contributions to
2 the infrastructure and economy of the State of Alabama and the
3 United States; an annual week-long awareness campaign
4 highlights the accomplishments and contributions of surveyors
5 throughout the world; now therefore,
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
7 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we hereby commend surveyors
8 and the surveying profession and its positive impact on the
9 State of Alabama and we acknowledge March 15-21, 2020, as
10 National Surveyors Week in Alabama.
