13 Relating to Crenshaw County; to provide for a
14 booking fee to be imposed on each person booked into the
15 Crenshaw County Jail and subsequently convicted of a crime; to
16 provide for the collection of the booking fee; and to provide
17 for the distribution of the revenues derived from the booking
18 fee.
19 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
20 Section 1. (a) In Crenshaw County, a booking fee in
21 the amount of twenty dollars ($20) shall be assessed against
22 and collected from each person booked or incarcerated into the
23 Crenshaw County Jail and subsequently convicted. The fee
24 assessed pursuant to this section shall be in addition to any
25 fines, court costs, or other charges imposed.
26 (b) The booking fee imposed by this section shall be
27 assessed against a defendant upon conviction by a court of law

1 where the defendant is convicted. The clerk of the court shall
2 enter the amount of the fee as provided in this section on the
3 docket sheet and shall collect the fee in the same manner and
4 the same time as court costs. Notwithstanding the foregoing,
5 the fee shall not be deemed a court cost based on collection
6 by the clerk.
7 (c) The revenues derived from the booking fee shall
8 be distributed to the Crenshaw County Sheriff's Department Law
9 Enforcement Fund to be used for law enforcement purposes.
10 (d) Any revenues derived from this section shall be
11 in addition to other funding sources for the Crenshaw County
12 Sheriff's Office and shall not reduce or replace any funding
13 from any other sources.
14 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the
15 first day of the third month following its passage and
16 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
