8 COMMENDING THE REVEREND JEFFERY L. DAVIS ON HIS
9 OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

11 WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that the
12 Reverend Jeffery L. Davis is recognized for his outstanding
13 accomplishments; and
14 WHEREAS, he was born in Carlton, Alabama, and was
15 reared in Mobile, where he attended Mobile Public Schools;
16 following his graduation from Dunbar High School, he continued
17 his education by attending Spaulding Business College and
18 Oakdale Bible College; he graduated from Lomax-Hannon School
19 of Seminary Studies; he earned his Associate's, Bachelor's,
20 and Master's Degrees in Divinity from Ministry International
21 Institute in Powell, Tennessee; and
22 WHEREAS, the Reverend Davis is an icon in the civil
23 rights struggle, facing many challenges in the quest for equal
24 opportunity, which opened many doors for others; through him a
25 lawsuit was filed paving the way for the first black sheriff
26 of Mobile County; he was the first black supply inspector
27 hired at Brookley Field, the first black supervisor in the

1 Material Receiving Branch, the first to integrate the
2 all-white cafeteria at Brookley Field; following his transfer
3 to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, he became the first
4 black supervisor in redistribution and marketing; he was
5 promoted to the position as the first black sub-unit chief,
6 the first black unit and sections chief in the Material
7 Receiving Section; and
8 WHEREAS, following his retirement, he returned to
9 Mobile and continued his mission for equal opportunity; he has
10 served on the Dumas Wesley Center Board, which is a Mobile
11 community organization; he has served as president of the
12 board for the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance,
13 Crichton Millville Civil Organization, and the Axis-Creola
14 Civic League, and numerous others; and
15 WHEREAS, the Reverend Davis was the pastor of
16 Milledgeville AME Zion Church in the Owassa Community for
17 twenty years; he is married to the love of his life, the
18 Reverend Doctor Dorothy D. Davis, who is the pastor of
19 Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church; now therefore,
20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
21 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the Reverend Jeffery L. Davis
22 is heartily commended for his outstanding achievements, and
23 this resolution is offered in highest tribute to him along
24 with best wishes in all future endeavors.
